Paper by Benjamin Grisin, Stefan Carosella and Peter Middendorf
In cooperation with the University of Stuttgart (IFB) and M&A Dieterle GmbH, a new approach to an automatable fiber impregnation and consolidation process for the manufacturing of fiber-reinforced composite parts has been developed: the Vacuum Chamber Infusion (VCI).
The project was part of the funding program ZIM.
In order to not only prove feasibility but also to be able to classify it, a reference process was needed – and why not compete with the best? Naturally Composyst was happy to provide its VAP® membrane type CS/E as a reference: „are infused with the VCI and with the state-of-the-art process—Vacuum Assisted Process (VAP)—as the reference.“ (Cite)
VCI was able to withstand the comparison: Both methods measured a void content of less than 2% and VCI performed similarly to VAP® in terms of Fiber Volume Fraction (FVF)
We congratulate Benjamin Grisin, Stefan Carosella and Peter Middendorf on their successful work!
